Try airmon-ng [Aircrack-ng]
The command is # airmon-ng XX start et cetera.
Hi
I have a 2W ALFA Network AWUS036NH (Not) running on BT4 Live on USB
Iwconfig gives
Interface Chipset Driver
ra0 Ralink 2560 PCI rt2500 (monitor mode enabled)
wlan0 Atheros ath5k ! [phy0]
I ran
Airomon ra0 start
ifconfig ra0 up
though airodump-ng runs but shows no AP’s
Correct me if I’m wrong but I think I Need RT2800USB to make it work correctly and to give me the option of injecting with it
Only for the life of me I can’t find any instructions how to make my AWUS036NH work with RT2800USB on a BT4 USB
Any help would be appreciated
Try airmon-ng [Aircrack-ng]
The command is # airmon-ng XX start et cetera.
Streight out of the box you can surf Internet with Alpha AWUS036NH but that is all you can do in BT4. The Alpha is newer than Backtrack 4 and therefore not compatible with programs such as Aircrack, there is now way to do injection on this card with included drivers in BT4
Shame really as the new AWUS036 and it's 2000W is a true joy and the signal is very good, especially with the 9db antenna
I truly wish BT4 will have supported drivers for this card or a neat guide to enable use.
Acording to
TUTORIAL: Installing drivers RTL8187, r8187, RT2800usb on UBUNTU
Driver rt2800usb/Stacks-mac80211 with Kernel 2.6.28-11-generic (ref. ALFA-AWUS050NH/AWUS036NH)
**- With Compat-*Wireless, the "injection" and all "attacks" of Aireplay-ng, are already supported natively without installing any "patch".
*- Compatible with "Macchanger".
- The RX sensitivity and packets injection is less, related to ALFA-AWUS036H.
- Do not allow surfing Internet (possible with the driver RT2870sta or the new RT3070sta)
While, for use of the new ALFA-*AWUS050NH/AWUS036NH, load driver RT2800usb:
Code:
sudo modprobe rt2800usb
I know i woudl have to swap between drivers but that would be ok if i new how ?
Oh and i tried
Airomon ra0 start
ifconfig ra0 up
airodump-ng ra0
still shows no AP's my other card shows loads !
I tell a lie one ap did appear for a second - the alfa in XP picks up around 30 AP's !
I have tried Try airmon-ng [Aircrack-ng] start stop etc..
Apparently according to TUTORIAL: Installing drivers RTL8187, r8187, RT2800usb on UBUNTU injection will work as long as you use the tr2800usb driver
Only I can’t work how to install it on my BT4 USB

Hi,
I am using the Ralink RT2870/3070 and the driver is the rt2800usb, as displayed by airmon-ng
My issue is the same, I cannot detect any wireless networks nor will it pick up any in airodump-ng.
Running Backtrack4 R1 Kernel 2.6.34 with instilation to HDD.
I didnt feel the need for blacklisting any drivers as apparently the rt2800usb driver is what is needed, so I kept it the same.
http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...rack-4-r1.html will fix you up (if yr using bt4-r1). be aware that rt2x00 drivers will allow you to use aircrack-ng for injection, etc - and if you want to actually connect to the internet, just use rt2870sta drivers.
for me, I just "blacklist rt2870sta", so that driver doesn't auto-load when I plugin the USB network card so Im all setup for injection, then when I want to use the adapter to actually connect to the internet I just "rmmod" the rt2x00 drivers, and manually "modprobe rt2870sta". it's all working for me, just make sure you follow one of the solutions in the above linked post.

'see the fnords!'
Thanks for the reply,
I have gone through that HOWTO several times. At the end of it I get the driver working (PROGRESS!!!!) but my power readings are a posative 70! I guess I am on the right track, now to cross this milestone.
