Backtrack screen brightness

Hey all,

I just downloaded backtrack, put it on my flash drive did all that and got the program running. However the screen is really really dark I can barely read anything. I tried changing the background to white that didn't help. After 5 minutes of squinting I had to boot back into Vista it was hurting too much. I don't know what to do. I don't know if I could type commands because I can barely see anything. My keyboard buttons for adjusting the brightness don't work or are already at full power. I'm running an Acer emachine e620. Thanks for any help.

You might need a driver for your card. You could also try changing the xgamma settings.
# xgamma -help for more info.
Or
# echo 100 > /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness where NVID would be the directory where my LCD brightness settings are located.
Your may be different. Look in the ./video directory for the appropriate name. The number 100 being somewhat arbitrary. The max here is 100 again yours may be different.

I tried what you suggested, to no avail. I installed backtrack all the way so now I don't need the flash drive. What do you suggest now? Thanks.

Mine is a Vaio SZ6, a difficult one for brightness tuning. I use a nice app: xbacklight. Try: xbacklight -set 80 (brightness %)

For some reason my problem went away .

Now I have a new one, I can't connect to my wifi. My wifi, nor my two nieghbors wifi shows up in the Network interface. I hope this isn't a driver problem or that my wireless card isn't compatible. Any advice on this? Thanks. I tried changing the settings and refreshing...nothing.

As for your wireless problem check the forum faq and how-to section for more info as this has been covered. Not to mention when you are in need of help we are in need of information.
Your neighbor's access points have nothing to do with this. Not to mention anytime I see a post with the word neighbor in it I feel the need to close the thread.

Ok thanks. I just mentioned neighbor to prove that it wasn't related to just my router.
