Default How to extract bt4-r1-vm.tar.bz2 file?

    Hi,

Can anyone help, I have downloaded Backtrack 4 R1 vmware image and have uncompressed this image only partially using winrar. Also tried 7zip, plus other extraction software but none of them works.

Any idea how to uncompress the vmware image?

    Thanks

For compressed files ending in the extension .bz2 you use bzip2.
Capitalisation is important. It's the difference between "Helping your brother Jack off a horse" and "Helping your brother jack off a horse".

The Forum Rules, Forum FAQ and the BackTrack Wiki... learn them, love them, live them.

If you are using some version of MS Windows I would recommend 7zip. You'll have to uncompress the tarball and then extract the file from the tar file. A 2 step process, but it's free.

    Download Page For 7zip

    Good luck!
