Re post #8, if google publishes a SPF record for gmail.com then you may not be able to send on their behalf. aol.com may be checking the SPF record and discarding your email (just ignoring it, not even calling it spam). Try sending as root@localhost or root@backtrack.
You could fire up ettercamp, tcpdump, wireshark and see if you're actually sending anything out. You could also telnet or netcat to port 25 and manually send the message, just as a test.
I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.

In my experience hotmail and yahoo will disregard email addy's which do not have reverse DNS and google will flag them as spam.
