lsusb shows my device however when i use the command
modprobe rt2870sta
i get a blank line, no information reguarding my device but it also does not tell me the device is not present either. just some further info if it helps
i've downloaded and compiled drivers, installed driver, edited /etc/networking/interfaces
and the card on the surface appears to work, blinking lights and responds when you load or unload the driver. here is the output from my ifconfig/iwconfig

everything appears to function, even detects my local wireles access point, but on "obtaining IP address" the lights on the card stop blinking and the app doesnt connect. (i know the RA2870 is a horrible card for linux, but i've almost got it working) just not sure where to go from here

Yeah i was looking at buying a RT2780 card. But after a bit of digging i decided against it because of how badly supported it is on Linux. Check this thread though, He says hes got it working, maybe he can help you. http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...50nh-bt4f.html
have you tried this? [ubuntu] HOWTO: Ralink rt2870 (Native) Kernel 2.6.24 - Ubuntu Forums
i know that the kernels are different but i don't think that should matter
i know alot of people are having problems with this chipset, since i don't have one i can only speculate, but i'm going to try to buy one later this week to see if i can get everything up and working on it
open source = open minds, human knowledge belongs to the world
me too.. it working great under backtrack3... u can see it here:
MASOKIS
but in bt4, i got major problem about this chipset..
