Second wireless adapter?

Hello everyone,
Today I just got paid and I have been thinking about buying a wireless usb dongle its the tl-wn821n now I know how to install it but there is one thing I want to make sure of before I go with the installation. I already have a built in wifi for my laptop. Is it possible to run both at the same time by just installing the new usb dongle or do I have to do some modifications somewhere.

If you are talking about using 2 wireless devices simultaneously in backrack 4, there is no problem in doing that.


First of all make sure you check the hardware compatibility list before choosing a USB wireless dongle.
Also a good idea to do a few google searches on the specific device you are looking at (in a show I saw the other day,
someone said "I binged it" just doesnt sound right...unless Chandler were to say it of course)

Yeah its perfectly fine i do it all the time using my built in atheros and my alfa usb.

I have googled it and its supported, but the thing I wanna know will it show up that I have to wireless adapters or do I have to do some modifications.

No mods necessary. if you type "ifconfig" the built-in card will show up as wlan0 or something similar and the other as wlan1 or something similar.

Hey everyone just bought it but know after installing the the combat wireless and all the drivers for the usb dongle, Now my built in wireless card is having a bit of problems nothing too major but I'm scared it might turn into just that if i don't get this fixed.

Now I'm pretty sure everyone with a laptop has the option to turn off their wifi with a button or something and the light turns off when you do right. Well now everytime I load a page the light goes on and off for some reason as if they are conflicting.Even if the usb dongle is down or not connected still happens.

Some feedback would be great.
