First things first... From one newbie to another - you will learn the hard way that you will not be spoon fed here. No one is.
If you're serious about learning BT, start getting used to researching and doing a lot of reading!

Use the search function. You will find pretty much everything there.

Spoon feeding Tip:
look in the Backtrack video section of this forum. Doesn't get any easier than that.

I have only had my VM going for a few days now and I am also a "newbie". I was thinking the VM tools addition would be over my head.

I was surprised by how manageable the process was as long as you go step by step. I had a video of the process and just stopped it while I performed the needed steps and walked (baby steps) slowly. It was not that difficult - really it wasn't.

If you are going the VM route you will definitely want to add the VM tools to your setup. Once the tools are in place its like a normal desktop in a bunch of ways. You won't like BT4 in a VM without the tools being added to the system - trust me on that one.
