are you looking for a little bit more privacy for surfing through the cyberspace?
after all these fantastic web 2.x innovations and more & more sophisticated
user-based web profiling, you should think about it...
even we all know that there is no doubt that google has the best and fastest
search engines/algorithms and no serious competive engine exists, still anyone
should care a bit about privacy settings, like in Firefox:
Preferences > Privacy > Private Data > 'Always clear my private data when I close firefox'
(click on settings right next to it and you should include cookies & saved passwords as well)
C'mon don't be too lazy to type in user/password in forms, get rid of your cookies on a regular base!
replace your default google page with this one:
Scroogle Scraper
install e.g. foxproxy to easiley switch between your tor proxy, FoxyProxy
(tor default: localhost:9050 socks proxy)
read about googles policies:

Advertising and Privacy ? Google Privacy Center
install anyonymous proxy services:
one option: using tor (yeahhh, there are rumors about it, of course it's not for HIGHLY anonymous surfing, but enough for the average user and YES it is quite slow, but there is always a drawback with anonymity and free of charge services (and pressure of law enforcement ;-)
Installation in BT4 is really simple and straight foward:
Code:sudo echo "deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org intrepid main" >>/etc/apt/sources.list sudo gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv 886DDD89 sudo gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get update && aptitude install tor tor-geoipdb sudo update-rc.d -f tor remove sudo /etc/init.d/tor start
another very interesting initative: JonDonym (written in java)
http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/
I use it on a regular base, even the premium services for 10€/year is really worthwhile to spend, speed is more than enough for surfing (I think most nodes are in Europe)!
Also check-out there firefox profile:
http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/jondofox
Jondo Installation is also done in 5min:
Test it and give the 10€ a try, they even add anonymous payment options, or use your regularCode:sudo echo "deb http://debian.anonymous-proxy-servers.net intrepid main" >>/etc/apt/sources.list sudo wget http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/downloads/JonDos_GmbH.asc sudo apt-key add JonDos_GmbH.asc sudo apt-get update sudo aptitude install jondo jondo
paypal account (start jondo > Config > Payment > Create account)
have fun and care about your privacy (especially for a pentester), don't forget: cyberspace doesn't forget anything, storage & cache is infinite ;-)
