use iwconfig for wifi cards
I am new to linux, been meaning to learn it, then when I found this site, gave me more than enough reason to learn it.
I am running Windows 7, with Virtual Box which has BackTrack 4 installed on it
I have a Cisco WUSB54GC Version 3 USBnetwork adapter, and connected it to the virtual machine
In the peripherals application it sees the usb network drive, but when I run ifconfig, only the eth0 and lo are shown. I also ran the etc/init..... command
I have read the forums, and tried lots of the suggestions, however when I try the terminal commands, i get errors.
I know that it has the rt73 drives, any help would be great

Hello,
Did you try running /etc/init.d/wicd start to start the wicd utility that may solve your problems wicd is a gui network manager.
cheers!
I have this problem too.
IMB THINKPAD T41 with cisco mini-pci card
Can't get network connection even when using iwconfig and ifconfig to configure my wireless card drivers.
Do I need to install separate drivers from lenova / ibm for linux?
Cisco are quite a large company I'd be disappointed to find out that I did after all the good things I've heard about Linux to date.
Problem has been sorted.
