Default Openoffice writer not in menu backtrack 4

I did update-menus and openoffice only shows up in drawing for openoffice drawing.

I guess I could manually add the program to kmenu.

this is just a preference thing but it would be nice to have all the openoffice programs/icons in a seperate menu like in gnome for ubuntu with appropriate icons

I don't believe openoffice is in BT.
You might want to see their documentation.

That is correct. I went through the same issue when I first installed OpenOffice.org (OOo)

You can manually add them or you also have the option of running them from command line.

BT isn't made for Open Office, if you want to use it for something like that I suggest you change your mind.

    Agree for sure

Btw if you need something like Power Point viewer or so you just open your terminal and type next:
    Code:
    apt-get install pptview
Then it will ask to confirm download & disk space using, then type "y" and press enter.
Hope it will help if you need power point viewer....

Open office 2.4 is the only version to be supported in the current release of BT4. I found its release in the K Menu under --> System then choosing Add/Remove... Package Manager. Outside of it not being the current release (I havent been able to get a version higher then 2.4 to work) the Office menu is missing in the K menu.

I edited the menu and then added the entries manually the terminal commands to open each component of open office I found using the following link,

Starting from the command line - OpenOffice.org Wiki

I guess, when you write up a forensics / pen test report you need to jump to a different OS... Any thoughts to that issue.

Backtrack was made for Penetration testing not report writing.

also try to keep yourselves from installing any chat clients or accessing your email and social networking sites from your bt4, not nice to have that stuff floating around while your poisoning a clients network and your credentials just happen to leak out. I try to keep my bt4 laptop a business only machine so it doesnt leave any evidence ive been anywhere...

Irrespective of that which has been posted by others on this topic, if it is your personal desire to install the Open Office suite to BT, then this can be done through the Panel Menu:

    1. Right-click on the panel
    2. Configure Panel
    3. Menu
    4. Edit K Menu

This should permit you to add another menu heading to place the specific shortcuts under.

Shortcuts can also be placed on the desktop if you so wish. The command field for this desktop shortcut should contain /usr/bin/oowriter, for the Open Office Writer and the respective command for the rest of the Open Office components. I have created a user on my BT system that is installed to the hard drive, therefore I do not logon to root.

I hope this is of help to you.

    Edit:

In regard to the former, Kopete was automatically installed when I did several hard drive installations of BT and is included right there in the live USB procedure. Although such apps can be uninstalled, nonetheless it's a personal choice.
