total newbie,starting up strartX

hey im new at backtrack i finished downloading backtrack 4 and burned the .iso to a cd and setup my bios for booting from the cd now i started up backtrack 4 res 1024*789 works all great but i want to use the windows platform and i tried to start startX now i get the message no screens found fatal error,so i am thinking my video card needs linux drivers so i closed linux and start windows 7 again and downloaded from the nvidia website because i have a geforce 310m series on my laptop now my question is how do i install the .run file from nvidia on my linux platform and start up startX grtzzz mike the newbie
