Thread: how to update BT4 ISO

    Red face how to update BT4 ISO

    I didin't want to install BT4 in hard disk.but,want to update filesystem.squashfs.
    How can I do it? tks for help.
    Is it like these?

    1.boot from iso with vm then select Start BackTrack FrameBuffer (800x600)
    2.setup lan so vm can link to internet
    3.console:apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
    4.console:mksquashfs . /media/disk/new_filesystem.squashfs

    but when i follow up to do,the files was still creating....
    re-read,re-read, 8%,can not been finished.

    Did you try following this guide? From the FAQ forum...

    You read THIS (bt4-customise.sh)

    If you just create a squashed-file, will not need to boot BT-4
    Expand squashed-file, copy and chroot.

    yes,but it's faile.......

    I meant,
    update BT4 and then repack to iso.
    how to do it?

    I know what you meant. Quoting from the page that can be reached by following links from the FAQ entry I linked to above:

    I’ve automated the customising process of the livecd to a convenient script which can be run on the BT4 Pre final (and future) release. This script sets up a build environment for you and drops you off in a modifiable chroot. You update, upgrade, add, remove packages, and then exit the shell. The script goes on to build a modified iso for you, including the updates and additions you introduced.
