When you make a tool request you should include the following information in order to be taken seriously:

A link to the new tool or updated version
If its a upgrade please provide a reason for the upgrade and maybe even the section of the changelog that pertains to the new version.
If it is a new tool please give a description of the functionality
If there is already a tool in backtrack which provides the same functions, please provide some arguments why this new tool would be better.

Just saying "update this" just because there is a new version and it sounds cool is not going to get you taken very seriously.

Reason For Update:

1.7.0:
Changes for Packagers:
- Wicd now supports a -k option, which should be run by the init script
when the daemon is stopped to release the DHCP lease but should not
be run on a restart of the daemon.
- The ability has been added to split Wicd's components into multiple
directories. Use --gtk, --cli, --curses, and --daemon to
setup.py configure to specify the locations of the respective
components.
- The preferred way to run the GTK UI is now to use wicd-gtk, not
wicd-client. wicd-gtk is a new addition to 1.7 that will never
run wicd-curses. wicd-client will automatically decide to run
wicd-curses if there is no X session available.

Major Changes:
- Connection information is available by right clicking the tray icon
- Can set the hostname per network for all DHCP clients
- urwid 0.9.9 is now supported
- Added wicd-cli, a command line interface for use in scripts
- Global scripts are now passed parameters specifying the network

Minor Changes:
- Support for only displaying notifications using -o to wicd-client
- Reconnecting now works when measuring signal strength in dBm
- ESSIDs made of numbers now work properly
- All valid wpa_supplicant drivers are now displayed
- Wired network is now displayed while scanning wireless networks
- Added wicd-gtk, a command to always and only run the GTK UI
- Marked ioctl backend not supported
- Use dhcpcd-bin on Debian instead of dhcpcd script

- Will now start if the global script directories don't exist
- Adhoc window will now work correctly
- PSK can be generated from non-ASCII characters

during scans
- Made it possible to specify macros in script entries
- The GUI will now display the encryption entry dialog if you attempt to
connect to an encrypted network without entering a password
- Static gateway entry is now optional
- Passwords with leading or trailing whitespace are now stored properly
- Many init/config script, man page, and setup.py fixes/updates, including
better autodetection of file placement with regard to sleep hooks and
KDE autostart files (thanks to Robby Workman)

Yeah I didn't say copy and paste the entire change log. I said give a good reason why we should update it and maybe include the section of the change log which highlights the new feature. A good reason would be if there is a vulnerability or there is some new feature which is useful. So once again since you dont seem to understand, what does the new wicd do, that the old wicd does not do.

how would i compile the latest version without changing the bt4 wicd start script
which files should i prevent from editing?

is it just
/etc/init.d/wicd

well i have bin testing the new version of wicd (1.7.0)

and it works way better than the current 1.5.8 version

an update is a must, i consider this a critical update since you were not able to connect to all wireless networks, and no crashes so far

could you consider updating the bt4 repo?

Before you do this. Remeber to upgrade your backtrack 4 with these commands. Remeber use sudo if not in root if in root dont need to use sudo

once you've done the top your now ready to do the next in the video

1. download wicd 1.7.0 from this page
wicd | Download wicd software for free at SourceForge.net...

2. put it to a folder or on your desktop. i like to keep it clean so i made a folder called My Documents then a folder called Programs. its just cleaner that way i moved the wicd-1.7.0.tar.bz2 to the Programs folder and extracted it there.

3. Go in the directory of extraction and open terminal in there then use these next commands. Again remeber if in root dont use sudo if not then use sudo

4. Reboot backtrack 4 with this command in terminal

5. check that you have the new version of wicd 1.7.0

REMEBER: to go into Preferences and put in your wireless interface name

Open up terminal and type in sudo airmon-ng and hit enter and see what interface you have. if wlan0 then type that into the wireless interface in Preferences of wicd manger. and there you have it happy days and have a good day. stay safe
