Stop Networking from Starting on Boot

So, there are a myriad of threads about how to configure wicd to start on boot, but how do you UN-configure this? I've not edited /root/.bash_profile or followed any tutorials, but it seems that the "start-network" command is still running on boot.

Additionally, nessusd (the local server for Nessus) is starting at boot (before login).

In addition, something called "system-tools-backends" is running at boot, after the Hardware abstraction layer.

How can I configure BackTrack to stop running these processes?

There are several ways to do this. One quick easy way is to use sysv-rc-conf
sysv-rc-conf - Run-level configuration for SysV like init script links

So am I correct in assuming that, if I turn off a service using SysV, it will cease to run on boot, but I can still activate it manually using "start-network"?
