A quick google search on "Using vodafone mobile broadband with ubuntu" brings up a few results. Did u do this?
hi,
i was wondering if anyone knows how i can use my vodaphone mobile broadband stick on backtrack4, i want to start using backtrack as a primary OS on my dell laptop, and been trying to figure out how i connect it, i did try "iwconfig" but couldnt really tell what was what. eth0 or 1 i take is ethernet, wlan0 is my wireless card and wmaster0 might be my mobile broadband stick.
so after not much luck i was kinda hoping someone could direct me in the right path. when i am confident that i can connect it, i am hoping i can install BT4 with full disk encryption following the video tut and just changing some of the details like the directories to install to, rather than usb, its not end of the world if i cant (replacement flash drive is on its way to me)
thanks for any help.

Just when you see the light at the end of the tunnel, the roof caves in!
i didn't Google it, because i have used ubuntu various times and with the standard 9.04 version - when i plug the stick in, vodaphone comes up on the desktop and in ubuntu, top right, you can right click and click connect in the wireless connection options.
i know BT4 is using ubuntu as its base, but i'm not sure that its completely the same, maybe if i can find the software that's used in normal ubuntu i may be able to find it in the repositories for Back|Track. i think that maybe possible. waiting on a reply from someone aswell who may send me a dail.conf file so maybe that will help
will Google ubuntu and see if i can find the software used for the connections to mobile broadband....
cheers

You might also want to try :
3G | BackTrack Linux
hey,
yes i agree that was my first mistake, second mistake was to take the model code that is written on the device. the proper name for it is E620 model. i ended up loading backtrack in VM and had a look at the usb devices list and found it. (really don't know why i didn't do that in the first place \o/
will certainly look at the 3G linux usb after i finish this. someone sent me some cool info on usb_modeswitch, so, i will let you know how i get on.
thanks for all your help, will let you know how i get on with it

i think this looks very promising, i believe i can find the vendor id etc in the VM usb devices list....hopefully will be back later, if not then what ever i have done hasn't worked - wish me luck and thanks again.

Betavine - Forums - Linux - Vodafone k3520 Linux ubuntu driver help
i downloaded and installed to the instructions in the above article adding the ubuntu remix URI, and also in the end downloaded the files i needed direct - vodafone mobile connect and usb mode switch and used the dpkg commands and apt-get to get updates and the -f command to fix any problems.
it is all working with no problems, connects and disconnects perfect
thanks for the help, and i have heeded the advice about google![]()
