Atheros ar9285 Driver

Thanks a lot mixit. It worked for me but i ran into a problem.

When i restarted my computer there wasn't a wireless device showing in iwconfig anymore.

I'm running a dual boot with windows 7. Maybe that's what's causing the issue? Maybe i needed to run the unload?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

P.S.

I tried running the unload and it took forever. I canceled it while it was running. is unload supposed to take that long?

/root/compat-wireless-2.6.32.3/scripts/athenable

except use the right directory. I'm booted into backtrack right now and im too lazy to reboot. If that doesn't work, post your error message. I don't remember if I ended up having to use that or not. Thanks to dustyboner though if that is the solution.

Eazy does it.

tar -xf /path/to/compat-wireless-2.6.33.tar.bz2  -  latest stable compat-wireless drivers

cd /path/to/compat-wireless-2.6.33.tar.bz2

./scripts/driver-select - it will show you a list of supported hardware

./scripts/driver-select <driver-name>  -  VERY IMPORTANT  -  WRITE THE DRIVER FOR YOUR CARD. FOR ATHEROS - ath9k

so

./scripts/driver-select ath9k

make

sudo make install

That's it.

Hey I've tried everything and nothing will show my device its atheros 9285 aswell... iwconfig doesnt show anything for me and when i type /etc/init.d/networking start it says devices not found...

Also I dont have a clue how to install that ath9k driver even though i followed that tutorial you linked to in the wiki...

ive done the compat-wireless-2.6.33-stable/v2.6.33 stuff and they all installed no problem but my card doesnt show up in iwconfig and im very new to linux and wanna try cracking a wep for the first time using bactrack4 ={

Thanks for that kukubau. I hope you don't mind if I add that to my "how to" where I attempted to explain how to get this chipset working. For me it worked the way I did it, but I never waited for confirmation that it worked for anyone else.

Download compat-wireless-2.6.32.3.tar.bz2

Open a terminal and run:

tar -xf /root/compat-wireless-2.6.32.3.tar.bz2
cd compat-wireless-2.6.32.3
make
make install
make unload
reboot

*If you get a "No such file or directory" error when you run make, run this command:

ln -s /usr/src/linux /lib/modules/2.6.30.9/build

I had small issue with my ath9k driver. Wireless signal was weak and even when I managed to connect for some reason I couldn't ping the router. After following dustyboner's advice everything works perfectly.

Hey guys, it doesn't work for me... ah, it seems like a bunch of other SONY VAIO Fs are having the same problems, I tried every version of the driver, and now we're up to compat-wireless-2.6.34.tar.bz2 on the official site...
I've followed this tuto: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...l?pagenumber=1
I've tried everything, VMware bridged, VirtualBox Bridged, VirtualPC, live CD and hard Drive Install...
But still no luck.. please help me (and a bunch of other people will be happy ha (= )

Hi Guys,

You are using BT4 right?, I would like to know which option to choose first when starting, I have so many options like KDE, Flush..etc, I'm running an ISO image on VMWARE, is it ok? will it save changes on restart as some steps require restart?

I tried the above on BT3 and it didnt work!
