Can I Update Backtrack 4 with Ubuntu disk 9.10

Hi ive just installed Backtrack 4 on my spare laptop, and was wondering if I can upgrade it with Ubuntu 9.10 disk.

No. This FAQ entry is sort of related to this, and hopefully should give you an idea why this might be a problem.

Why did you want to do that exactly? BackTrack has its own repository. Is there a particular program or tool installed on BackTrack from Ubuntu 9.10 that you want/need?

You should not do that,guys here do not recommend to do it.

Trust me thats a bad idea... Kubuntu 9.10-kde3 would be a better choice, but that still breaks damned near everything. If you know what you're doing you can update BT to have dependencies required for installing/compiling a lot of tools, but you should have a good reason (you'll lose official support). Patience will likely bring a more up-to-date base OS.

Odd.

BT4 repo is primarily an 8.10 repo, keep in mind the insane difference in the number of people who maintain Ubuntu and BT, and the devs aren't making a tonne of dough off of this so i'm pretty sure they either have to maintain day jobs or rob banks to support themselves. That said, the BT4 repo is the only one you want to be using with BT4. Its mostly ubuntu packages, but the key things that make this distro what it is are in that repo, and dependent on each other. Take it from someone who's spent excessive time trying to forward-port the tools, its painful.

What exactly do you need Karmic for? Lucid is already in beta anyway .

LOL, k lets get serious now. BT4 wasn't made to be a regular distro and it is a great example for the saying: "If it ain't broken don't fix it"

and as I said before its will just give you a massive headache in the end.
