getting full power from awus036h

Whilst running my eeepc 701sd on battery am I getting the full 500mw from my awus036h when
It is connected using a single usb lead or do I need to use the double headed lead that

If you are using mac80211 drivers you can use this code and it should give you 27db

 iw reg set US

check with

 iwlist wlan0 txpower

--

ieee80211 drivers you can use

  iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1

then

 iwconfig wlan0 txpower 27

check with

iwlist wlan0 txpower

Would these same settings work with the 1000mw alfa too or would they be different?
