Kernel changes cause boot errors?
i've tried modifying the 126.96.36.199 kernel to use PAE (turned on 64GB memory in menuconfig), then i made the kpkgs for kernel_image and kernel_headers, installed and got boot problems during the mount. I've tried the same with the lastest stable kernel (32.3) and even tried to install the latest kernel with no modifications (all the above done with the base .config being a zcat dump of /proc/config.gz) only to have the same issue. Is the BT4 kernel different from the mainline kernel? Has anyone else seen this issue?
The reason i'm doing all of this is due to the fact that i've got a bunch of memory in my laptop with only 3GB usable, and the next laptop i'm getting will likely have 8. Has anyone done this successfully?
I'm on a centrino2, and starting to think there might be some sort of problem with that...
