    ok well i didnt restore my computer just yet..I got some recovery tools and i found my files..Im not as stupid as you guys think lol i went trough the partitions and i found the NTFS file system still there so i scanned it and i found my files...Thorn is right the new partition that linux made is X: and it only has 5 gb...the rest of the hard drive should be my files. im working on fixing my mbr right now ill post my results when im done if anybody cares.

    After having come close to nuking my own install a while ago, I have found that other's experience is invaluable.
    This experience of yours may be interesting to others.

    I would suggest that you document your errors, findings and actions to restore your system in this post.

    I seriously doubt he will be able to restore his system. He has to reinstall it all over again. The only thing he can do is want I advised: Recover what he can. Some data will be lost forever and some will be retrieved, but some is better than nothing.

    type at the terminal

    #sudo su -
    <giv the password>
    #nano /boot/grub/menu.lst
    <add the following line to end of the file>
    title Windows
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
    <Ctrl+o, Enter>
    and u r done.

    #nano /boot/grub/menu.lst in here try menu.ls too. Now eversince i moved to bt i use lilo... so forgot much abt grub
