Wireshark question

I am trying to use wireshark on a windows 7 machine. I download and install it, and it works fine the first time, but after I close out of the program and open it later, no interfaces will show up.

My wireless card is a Atheros AR5007EG

EDIT: Disreguard, I was trying to user as a normal user.

Instead, can anyone point me to a good guide to understanding captures? I am watching a introduction to wireshark now.

Don't be surprised if you hear "this isn't a windows support forum".

The captures your describing are nothing but packets. Learn TCP/IP packet structure and you'll be well on your way to understanding it.
