    Default Rokland Raid Wireless Troubles

So Ive spent a few days now trying to find a solution to my wireless problem to no avail.

Ive got the Rockland raid USB dongle that was based off alfa AWUS038S. When I start Backtrack 4 and run
    Code:
    ifconfig ra0 up
    /etc/init.d/wicd start
Im able to connect to the internet.

However trying to work in monitor mode Im unable to see any access points. Ive tried to search for this issue, but unfortunetly I am not getting any errors to search for. Everything seems like it should be working and isnt. Relavant information on what Ive been doing to try and work in monitor mode below.

    Code:
    root@backtrack:~# iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.

    eth0 no wireless extensions.

    ra0 RT2870 Wireless ESSID:"" Nickname:"RT2870STA"
              Mode:Monitor Frequency=2.457 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
              Bit Rate:1 Mb/s
              RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
              Encryption key:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:-97 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
    Code:
    root@backtrack:~# airmon-ng start ra0

    Interface Chipset Driver

ra0 Ralink 2560 PCI rt2500 (monitor mode enabled)

    Code:
    root@backtrack:~# aireplay-ng -9 ra0
    06:47:45 Trying broadcast probe requests...
    06:47:47 No Answer...
    06:47:47 Found 0 APs
kismet and airodump-ng also do not show any access points.

If anyone has had similar issues, or as any idea of what the problem is and can point me into the direction of what I should be searching for I would appreciate it.

Also after bringing it into monitor mode, I am unable to bring it down, set mode to managed bring it up, and restart wicd and connect. I have to reboot the machine to get it working again.

    Thanks for the reply.

However (please correct me when Im wrong) that is a guide to installing the rt2870sta driver which is already installed. Knowing that it wasnt going to really work seemlessly with my kernel version I loaded bt3 to test the hirte driver. Installed just fine.

However the exact same thing happened as does currently in my bt4(pre). All seems ok, but then it doesnt find any AP's in monitor mode.

    UPDATE:

After a bit more research I learned the rokland raid should have been running the rt73 drivers. Though while trying to use the rt73 drivers made the card undetectable. After talking with the distributor -- we have reached the conclusion that there is most likely something not right in the hardware (at least the hardware specified in the product).

Will update one more time upon receipt of new adapter.
