Not sure about the whole "bare-bones" bit but look at the blog for info on how to customize the iso before burning it to dvd. This might help you trim out things you feel you may not need/want.
I've read several places online that a bare-bones edition of Backtrack 4 exists (or is supposed to if it doesn't already). The idea is that it's much smaller (I think I read it's 400 and some MB) and you can customize the package installation after installing it to fit your needs better.
Has anyone else heard of this or know where it can be acquired? A massive Google search last night yielded no pertinent information and a search of these forums hasn't given me any answers either. Any information would be much appreciated.
Thank in advance.![]()

I've got an Asus 701 eeepc 4gb netbook.
Bt4 doesn't fit on the mini internal harddrive at all, and the only way I could find to get it to work was a:
"apt-get autoremove"
in the customise.sh
Is there any better way to do this?
Now I'll have to slowly rebuild the tools that BT4 had once it's installed...
Is there any hope that there will be a bare-bones edition of BT4 Final?

I've got a 901 12G. I use a 8 gb card for BT4 too.
After playing with almost every light OS out there for everyday use (eeebuntu, crunchbang, vector linux, ...), I found the perfect one for my little Asus: Macpup Opera61.
It's a Puppy derivative with e17 built from scracth. Almost everything works out of the box. (Latest Macpup Foxy3 has issues with crypted personal files).
Macpup: A beautiful remaster of Puppy Linux
Then installed this theme. Much better than Xandros.
I use a default usb install on the 701's hard drive using unetbootin
this only takes up 1.4gb.
1. unetbootin the bt4-pre-final.iso to a usb stick and copy the bt4 iso to the stick.
2.boot from the stick
3.fdisk your /dev/sda and set it up for a 4gb bootable VFAT partition.
4.mkfs.vfat /dev/sda1
replace the XX, with tt.
5.echo "deb hXXp://uk.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ multiverse universe" >> /etc/apt/sources.list"
6. apt-get install -y unetbootin
7. Start unetbootin and select the bt4 iso. set your target as /dev/sda1.
Personally i think that the 8gb SD card works better but if you don't want to go that route then this works too.
