    Default Backtrack 4 ISO + GRUB 2 Loopback

    Has anyone been able to boot Backtrack 4 through usb using grub2's loopback loop iso mount feature? For me, it just endlessly loops trying to mount my local hard drives. Here's what I have in my grub.cfg:

    menuentry "BackTrack 4 Final" {
    loopback loop /boot/iso/bt4-final.iso
    linux (loop)/boot/vmlinuz find_iso/filename=/boot/iso/bt4-final.iso boot=casper nopersistent vga=normal --
    initrd (loop)/boot/initrd.gz
    }

    Add the word "boot" before your last squiggly bracket. IE:
    Code:
    ...
    initrd (loop)/boot/initrd.gz
    boot
    }
    Although, I've seen it done a little differently than the way you're doing it. For Example:
    Code:
    menuentry "BackTrack 4 Final" {
    loopback loop (hd0,7)/bt4-final.iso
    linux (loop)/boot/vmlinuz boot=fll quiet vga=791 fromiso=/boot/iso/bt4-final.iso
    initrd (loop)/boot/initrd.gz
    boot
    }
    Keep us updated, let us know if this works or not.

    The first post I think will fail because it's not stating where the loop is going. As in which hd and partition.
    The second one has a fair chance of working. Though I would remove quiet from it; just to see where it fails if it does.

    Personally I havent been able to get it work this way.

    Instead I made a PXE boot server using ubuntu. Worked just fine despite my netbook not having gigabit port.

    I tried adding the word "boot," and also using your entry, but it still doesn't work. Just like before, it reaches the point where it mounts my local hard drives, but then loops for a while with "NTFS volume version 3.0. kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds. EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with writeback data mode" before going to a BusyBox prompt.

    I doubt that it's an issue with the grub2 stanza that I'm using, because it works fine for other images, such as Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Ophcrack, PartedMagic, etc.

    has anyone made any progress with working out if/what any of the iso forward parameters work with bt4-final.iso ??

    this is one of the few iso's I'm struggling to get working on a grub2 multiboot usbkey

    cheers

    Code:
    menuentry "BackTrack4" {
    	set isofile="/boot/bt4-final.iso"
    	loopback loop $isofile
    	linux (loop)/boot/vmlinuz find_iso/filename=$isofile BOOT=casper boot=casper nopersistent rw vga=0x317--
    	initrd (loop)/boot/initrd.gz
    }
    here is my current entry, I've tried many different find_iso/isofilename combinations
    I'm wondering if maybe trying to add insmod ntfs and setting the root in the menuentry may help,
    any other tips / success stories from anyone else?

    I have looked at this problem for a while, and there is no easy way to do this (boot from ISO located on a disk somewhere). The scripts that do the bootloading are missing many useful options (like findiso etc).

    If you still want to do this, take a look at my post in:
