I fingured I should finally bite the bullet and post this query. I have a MacBook Pro (5.1 Late 2008). Wireless with wicd works out of the box with some great signal strengths, however when I run

apt-get upgrade

---OR---

aptitude update
aptitude safe-upgrade
after the packages havebeen installed and the system has been restarted it can't detect my wireless interface anymore. lspci still shows the card is there (Broadcom b/g/n) but Wicd yields no wireless networks and ifconfig/iwconfig only show eth0 and lo.

I know Macs aren't well loved but overall linux is getting more and more compatible with it...

...and I cant afford an eeePC.
