    Default wireless with static ip

    there are open wireless networks in my area, but they dont have dhcp
    how can i find which ip ranges that they are using

    You could always start out by saying to yourself, "Hmm...these aren't my networks, and considering I don't have permission to be toying around with them, I'm doing something illegal." I doubt you'll get help on this question, your basically asking to get flamed. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, in most places it's illegal just connecting to another users access point without permission. I honestly think it's folks like you who give this distro a bad name - just my opinion though.
