Using the command (for wep):

aireplay-ng -1 0 -a xx:xx:xx:xx:xx -h zz:zz:zz:zz:zz -e essid ath0
(x being my bssid | z being my mac)

I receive the following error:

AP rejects open-system authentication
please specify a PRGA-file (-y)

what should my next step be? should I use the korek chopchop attack instead?

Try spoofing your mac.

macchanger --help

And for the aireplay-ng code you entered, its superfluous..

aireplay-ng -1 0 -a (BSSID) ath0
