compiz, nvidia, Black screen issue

bt4f...
i have installed my nvidia driver then rebooted, i get the nvidia splash screen and the resolution is now looking sexy after startx. after i click 'reload windows manager' in the control panel of compiz the screen goes black...

i can still move the mouse around and click on things but the screen is black...

has any one experienced this?

compiz worked fine on bt3f...

i disabled all effects in compiz then reloaded windows manager but still get the black screen...

could some one recommend a temporary fix?

on my usb stick i have backtrack 3 final and compiz works fine on there, could i extract all files related to compiz from that usb stick then use them with backtrack 4 final? does any one see a problem with this?
