    Ok, so im new to linux. realy new.... only started using it yesteday. now this has been posted many of times before but i have searched n searched n still i am stuck. I am using backtrack 3 with VMware workstation on an ADVENT 9315. i am trying to crack wep/wpa. my problem Started when i tried running airmon-ng all i get is

    Interface Chipset Driver

    nothing underneath it, while searching litrally hundreds of posts i came accross that it might be my built in network adaptor which is a realtek rtl8187b i also read i could download new drivers for it and it will work but i have no idea how to install drivers on linux.

    can anybody please help me? like i said i am very new to this and would appreciate your patience with me.

    Your first stop should not be about aircrack but rather this thread http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad-thread.html
    This will really pay off in the long run.

    There is no big red "H4x0r 1t n0wz!" button.

    Go practice your google'fu on:
    * Linux for beginners
    * Linux 101
    * Introduction to linux
    etc

    If you're starting with Linux (as your post STRONGLY suggests) then checkout Ubuntu or something aimed at general users not a distro aimed at a specific user group that you are not part of.
    I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.

    I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.

    And lastly, BackTrack 3 is NOT supported here. Upgrade to BT4 Final.

    Thanks for point that out. I did not see it.

    @OP please do as mentioned above and upgrade since there is no support for BT3. The final is available here on the website.
