Laptop screen lid problem

I just bought a new Compaq 610 laptop and ran BT4 on it (Live CD). I'm having a problem with the lid of the screen. When i close it the system completely freezes and i should improperly shut it down and run it again.

What should be done about it ?

Turn the laptop off first ?
I don't get it, that is the normal expected behavior.

What I'm saying is that when I close the lid of the laptop and reopen it, the system crashes and freezes most of the time.

I've tried doing the same thing on another laptop using BT4 pre release and there was no problem at all.

Is there an option or a setting for the system how to react upon closing the lid ?

and or: system->preferences->power management I believe.
