Default Asus Eee PC 901: Operation not permitted

    So, the messages are:

    root@bt:~# airmon-ng start ra0

    Interface Chipset Driver

ra0 Ralink 2560 PCI rt2500SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted
    (monitor mode enabled)

    root@bt:~# airodump-ng ra0
    ioctl(SIOCSIFFLAGS) failed: Operation not permitted

    root@bt:~# lspci
    ..........
    01:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2860

BackTrack 4 Pre Final version is working good on my Asus Eee PC 901.
Booted from USB microSD both. Made by Grub4dos, not by Unetbootin.

    What's the problem ?
    What should i do ?

same exact problem. BT4 Pre-Final worked like a charm. And now Bt4F doesn't at all.

and a standard ifconfig ra0 up. Is request denied.

    Code:
    root@bt:~# ifconfig ra0 up
    SIOCSIFFLAGS: Operation not permitted
EDIT: oh and i almost forgot just simple ifconfig ra0:
    Code:
    root@bt:~# ifconfig ra0
    ra0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
              BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
              RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
              RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
              Interrupt:19
(its not even getting my Mac Address... so yea

Plus the iwconfig ra0 gives this output:
    Code:
    ra0 Ralink STA ESSID:"" Nickname:""
              Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Bit Rate=1 Mb/s
              RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
              Encryption key:off
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:-87 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
ra0 Ralink STA ( i think this is the problem as other sites show the driver...

    edit 2:

    the command lshw
    shows:
    Code:
    *-network DISABLED
           description: Wireless interface
           physical id: 1
           logical name: ra0
           capabilities: ethernet physical wireless
           configuration: broadcast=yes driver=RALINK WLAN driverversion=2.2.0.0 multicast=yes wireless=Ralink STA
    root@bt:~#
This would be a problem yes?

(tbh im a bit out of my league) Much Appreciated for helping

    So, the surprise was:
the folder /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA does not exist at all !!!

    Solution:

    Code:
    mkdir /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA
    cp /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/RT2870STA.dat /etc/Wireless/RT2860STA/RT2860STA.dat
    Are you happy now ?

Different card but exact same problem for me using Realtek RTL8192E on a samsung N210....obviously that exact solution won't work for me so how do I tweak it to solve my problem?

    Thanks
