I did all the commands, i found out my gateway from netstat -nr, everything looked like it was working fine, but no results. Just sitting at the screen after I type ettercap -T -q -i eth0 everything comes up but no results. I did everything exactly the way it's done in the video (except with my own target IP and gateway obviously) I am in fact a noob. I would greatly appreciate help. Thanks in advance.

However, the ettercap man pages state that starting ettercap kills kernel ip_forward, which is easily verified once the attack is in progress (/proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward is set to 0 as soon as ettercap is running).
This could be the cause of the slowdown, as ettercap has its own packet forwarding algorithm which may interact differently with IP tables than the kernel service, and would just lead to a big mess in general.
I'm going to keep hunting for a method that purposely uses ettercap to mitm, and somehow encorporates sslstrip, which would at the very least include the diverse ettercap mitm plugins.
