Lightbulb Idea - can we make search engine of this forum a bit effective

When searching with the string, say for example -
    buffer
    it gives 195 pages, with
    overflow
    it gives 103 pages.

    Again, when searching with
    buffer overflow
it gives 227 pages which is OK because it's searching for either the word "buffer" or "overflow" and showing all pages. Note that all of this 227 pages will not have BOTH "buffer" & "overflow". Only
    Code:
    195 + 103 - 227
    71 pages contain both strings.

If "buffer overflow" is searched as a phrase with the " ",
    "buffer overflow"
we should get 71 pages (or less than that depending on how close both words are) which will make life much easier. Google works exactly like this. Mods, Is it possible to make the search engine of our forum more efficient?

buffer+overflow returns 71 pages which seems to be close to you desired result. Do some reading on how the vbulliten search engine works.

Thanks for your reply. I know that I must be missing something because buffer+overflow also gave me 228 pages.

I was looking at the same thing, Pureh@te there might be a possibility that you have edited your default search setting on the "advanced search" page and then saved them. Mine shows the same results as the Kazalku.
Or it could be due to your user level on the forums.

Either way there is always the Backtrack Google search engine.

This was happening from the very begining for me (even before I joined here).. If user level is the reason then the new starters need the "search" more than anyone...

While the above may be true (in regards to new users), you have seen for yourself that they don't use the search function as well as they should.
