wireless connection problem

hey guys. I have backtrack 2 full installed on my laptop, but I can't get it connect to my wireless AP.
after I set the essid, encry key and channel to my AP, I use the command dhcpcd ath0 to try to get the IP from the AP, but it returns nothing. I ping 192.168.1.1, and it says network is unreachble something. what I have miss?

BT 2 is outdated, not to mention it uses "pump".
As such you are probably not going to get much help here for it.
Might want to upgrade to 3 or even 4
