Default What file do I download?

Hello, I'm new to BT, but I know my way around the computers:

My question is, what file should I download from the Downloads page?

the .iso file or the .zip file?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Actually you want to wait before downloading anything and read this:
    http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...ad-thread.html
Not only the thread but take a look at what Linux is. Otherwise you are going to get in real fast over your head. Not saying you can't download BT but if you don't know which version (live dvd or vmware image) then your going to have a tough time running/using either one.

BT is not really an appropriate distribution for someone that doesn't understand the difference between an ISO and a ZIP (or really an ISO and a VMWare image ... per the headings on the DL page).

If you want to start using Linux you should checkout a standard version of Ubuntu NOT a customized version aimed at a very specific non-beginner audience.
I'm a compulsive post editor, you might wanna wait until my post has been online for 5-10 mins before quoting it as it will likely change.

I know I seem harsh in some of my replies. SORRY! But if you're doing something illegal or posting something that seems to be obvious BS I'm going to call you on it.

These guys are right mate. I'm a beginner and have tinkered with Backtrack for about a year on and off and i find i'm way over my head. Even now after a few hundred hours messing around, i still end up having to use tutorials because the code baffles me. I thought it would be easy but i was way wrong! I would say i'm pretty advanced with windows but linux... is another game! My point being... Dont jump straight in. Learn a bit about Linux and other distro's first and then give Backtrack a go. I'm tinkering with both Ubuntu and Backtrack at the moment and learning quicker than just messing around with Backtrack alone.

Just download the ISO and burn it to disk [DVD].Where's the zip file anyway???.Then stick it in your comp and boot from it [read the tutorials here and elsewhere] Jumping in head first is probably the best way with this shit.

Its clearly said on that downloads page

    ISO

BackTrack 4 Final Release VMWare Image
    ZIP

I have to say that I have used ubuntu 3 years ago for a while and at last 2 years Iv only used windows. Then I started to use BT4. Im an advanced user in windows ut a starter in linux, well I was 1 month ago. Its actually really easy to start using linux - google is your friend.
