unable to bring up crashed xserver

i was using kde on bt4..then all i did was

synaptic package manager-->mark all upgrades-->apply

i upgraded all the packages

i have nvidia chipset and i was using the nvidia driver downloaded from nvidia site

i have been trying to bring up xserver by following posts in this forum

but all i have succeeded is getting fvwm up

nvidia builds perfectly but when i try to startx it says missing glx though i have uninstalled and reinstalled it

can some one please give me a step by step guide to have my xserver up again

there was a link that involved moving of files and linking kde4 to kde3 i did that and removed kdm then i did startx and added nvidia module to my xorg.conf

i am able to boot into fvwm-crystal

how do i boot into kde
