Let me say backtrack is my first linux distro I'm usually a windows user and let me say I am LOST!!!!!!!!!!!! I am trying to use some of it's fancy wireless security features and can get it to do nothing. Kismet says it cant detect any networks (Im definitely in range of at least a few), and as far as I can tell my wireless adapter is not even working. I tried to open firefox to no avail. I am booting from a thumbdrive if that is any help, and I am using backtrack 4. If any1 has any tips/help please let me know!

2. OP most likely did not start networking, and in my signiture. (Or here if you wanted to use the links in the "New to linux" Thread http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/)

ok guys again I apologize for breaking the and not searching the forums, but I am happy to say I did get this one fixed. For some reason or another when i tried to open Wicd before it just didn't do anything, but today I tried it again and it opened up like a charm. Strangest thing right?

It must be true then, rebooting (even in BT) fixes 80% of problems!
I'm just playing with you OP, hopefully you don't. Have anymore major hitches while using BT
