backtrack 3 chipset ath0 parent wif0

Hello all

I am having problems with my network card on backtrack 3.... the card is working on linux.. and i have it connected to my wifi.. but in backtrack when i type in the command airomon-ng.. it comes up with the folowing...


interface chipset driver

wifi0 atheros madwifi-ng
ath0 atheros madwifi-ng VAP (parent: wifi0)

what does this mean? the card i have is a nec warpstar aterm wl54ag i have seen posts of ppl using this card with backtack on other sites....

beacuse when i airodump ath0.. nothing happens
but if i airodump wifi0 it brings the network list up with no networks on it.....


is my card not configured properly? if so how do i set it up?

what specific commands are you using?

If you use:

airmon-ng start wifi0

that should put your card in monitor mode and give you a new interface (ath1) which you will use for airodump:

airodump-ng ath1
