Default Virtual PC and BT3 Black Screen

    Good day again all,

I've been reading up and I see there are many struggles regarding virtualization and Backtrack 3. This will be part of my virtual honeynet

    Hardware:
    HP Workstation XW5000
    2gb RAM
    QUAD FX 2000 Nvidia

    OS: Windows Server 2003

Using Virtual PC, I am attempting to install backtrack 3 on a virtual slot.
Most of the boot process seems to check out. It autoconfigures xwin
and then right after the message:

IF YOU GET A BLACK SCREEN PRESS CTRL+ALT+NUMPLUS a few times

The screen goes black and it does not boot any further. I tried the ctrl+alt..
    but it doesn't work..

I don't know if this is a display issue or NIC issue. I tried
ALL res, Only Guest OS res and only Standard Res.
    None worked.

Just an update on the problem.

I tried booting text only rather than graphical KDE.
Text boots fine and it takes up the whole screen so
    the res is fine too.

Seems like VPC has a problem with xwin or rather its graphical
    interface.

So.. Perhaps doing a REAL install from the console,
and then I could configure xwin?

Sorry for multiple posts.. I'll wait longer next time.

So I booted off the CD with text only FB.

Out of curiosity, in the console I typed startx and strangely enough,
    xwin booted.

I'm stumped. Can someone explain this?

Hi Prophet. I have seen exactly the same issue myself and am just learning this as well. I will try your method to get it working.
