    Default ath0 doesn't appear only wlan0

    i have an atheros chipset in my netbook with an alfa 500mw attached and in backtrack when I type - iwconfig or ifconfig i only see wlan0 i don't see ath0 is this normal?

    Check lsmod to see what modules are loaded. It maybe using the ath5k not madwifi.

    there is a post from today or yesterday on the forums on installing the proper drivers, search for it.

    The old madwifi project uses the ATH[X] naming convention while the new, ATH[Y]K drivers name the interfaces WLAN[X] (where X starts at 0 and Y pertains to either 5 or 9 depending on what wireless card you have.)
