Default Using wordlist.sh can't see JTR in linux

First post, forgive lack of linux knowledge.

    I'm on VMware 2.5/aircrack-ng. Have wordlist.sh in usr/bin and

    1) merges files OK
    2) can't find john!

I've downloaded 1.7.2 tar and installed it in root/ next to aicrack install.
Shell opens john in /run folder with ./john OK. ./john --test runs OK. Can't run john outside of that folder.

How can I get wordlist.sh to see john? I'm new to linux. I looked at systemwide in /params.h and can't make sense of it.

    Thanks

What is Vmware 2.5 ? Player server or workstation?
Are you using BT3 of 4 beta or what?
Why would you need to download aircrack-ng and jtr to root?
    They are both included.
In order to find files use the find command and or locate.
Both of which have man pages.

I'm using VMware player 2.5.1 and am using aircrack v4 not BT3 This is more a question about wordlist not seeing JTR.

I installed JTR in root next to it and you can move the folder anywhere and use it but it's not seen by wordlist.sh. Where would you suggest I install it and how? I assumed that position would be fine.

JTR directions were followed, but it even writes about being not being systemwide.

    Thanks for your time.
