Hello Mcfly!
The error message couldn't be any clearer. Stop the xserver and run the driver install scrip from the frame bufferCode:ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Well i just installed backtrack 3 to my usb stick, and have been trying to install my display driver.
In terminal i put:
"Sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.51-pkg1"
and hit [enter]
i then get a message saying:
ERROR: You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing.
Then i hit [enter] then the installation fails.
anyone know of a way around this?
Im running in (VESA KDE) mode.
Btw: I'm a bit new to linux.
- thanks for reading -

ctrl + alt + f2
Thanks ctrl + alt + f2 worked. But i still get the same install error from there.

When you reboot your BT3, boot into console mode, *don't* startx. Install your driver...
also, there's the ps -ax command... with a grep something... hope that is not too hard.
