startx errno 111 and errno 3

I am getting the errors:
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.

when I start the xstart command.
my friend said it has something to do with my display

How do I fix this?

First this is the bug and fixes section of the forum.
This is not a bug but your inability to configure the xserver.
The error is right in front of you.
Search here and or google to find your monitors supported resolution and add it to the xorg.conf file generally located at /etc
Once that is finished then report back.

im having the same problem but i can't figure out how to edit the conf file. everything i read makes it sound like a file that you'd edit after installation.

There are several ways to edit a file in *nix.
Try #nano /path/to/file
