Torrent Tracker on WINE - uTorrent/Bittorrent

PLEASE HELP ME MOVE THIS THREAD IF IT IS NOT IN THE RIGHT DISCUSSION BOX.


I've been browsering for a few days now and I may have missed it cause I haven't found one.

This is largely experimental, I had setup and config P2P through a Crossover cable CAT 5e between my two WinXPs they worked wonderfully. In my opinion its more convenience then USB-Pen-Drive for files sharing. I do understand in windows I can config Map-Network-Drive, but like I've said, it is purely for experiment.

Anyway, here is my direct question. I'm testing both uTorrent/Bittorent as Private tracker. Since i'm on BT3 with WINE, I can't seem to get the connection to my XP via Crossover CAT 5e. Could someone explain why WINE can't bridge through BT3 to my eth0?

I've confirmed that BT3 can see my XP IP on this network of 2PCs. Not sure how a program in WINE can't seem to bridge this gap.

Unless someone is not familiar with Private Tracking Torrent. Normally when you down *.torrent file, these files sharing are being tracks through one of the popular trackers such as thepiratebay.com or demonoid.com for example.

Since I'm tracking through a Static IP between two computers locally, the trackers are. http ://<you-static-ip-address>:<same-port-number-as-in-uTorrent/Bittorrent>/announce

example:
XP-Computer-Seeding: http ://192.168.1.15:80 /announce
So you create a new torrent and add the tracker above. Save the *.torrent and hand it to BT3-Computer-Downloading and load it into uTorrent/Bittorent then torrent downloading should start. Both bt.endable_tracker are turned one with the 'true' value for the private tracking to work (can be found under Options->Preferences->Advanced->bt.enable_tracker)

In my case and it is because XP<->BT3 through WINE I can't seem to accomplish any connections.

I've configed my eth0 with its own IP already using
ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.19 netmask 255.255.255.0
and the card is enabled.


Any input would be greateful.

p.s. Very new to Linux so any simple interpretations would be preferred.

I'm also pickup some reading on how to "Map-Network-Drive" a function found in window enable for file sharing among the local network computers. So any suggestion wouldn't hurt.

Ever heard of the "Samba" protocol for file sharing? That's what M$Windows uses if you enable "File and Printer Sharing".

Open up Windows Explorer, and type any IP in the following format:

\\192.168.0.15\

This will give you the Samba shares on a given computer.

The whole "Map a network drive" thing simply lets you take foreign Samba shares and assign them to a drive letter on your own computer, so basically instead of typing "\\192.168.0.15\porn\asian", you just type "k:\porn\asian".

By the way, I think Mozilla Firefox can access Samba by doing "smb://192.168.0.15/" (just plucking this from memory, not sure if it's entirely correct)

Is there a particular reason you are using uTorrent in WINE instead of using a regular *nix torrent application like Transmission?

Not exactly, I'm introducing myself to Linux within the last several days and just thought it neats to run Win32 *.exe on Linux which is why i'm using it.

If Transmission or similar torrent client works better on BT3, then I'll consider that and hope it'll enable Private Tracking within the local network that it has worked between two XPs.

These might help if you decide to go the samba route.
Try typing in your shell when you are authenticated to your network...

smbtree (_gets the shares on the local network_)

Make a directory
mkdir /tmp/folder_name_of_your_choice
mount.cifs //192.168.1.100/shared_folder_name /tmp/folder_name_of_your_choice

This should mount your windows share to the BT folder you created (works in 3 and 4beta)

After poking around a little more uTorrent client on WINE, I pull up the "Logger" tab and it has some error messages below.

The first line "0.0.0.0:80" don't know why it reads as 0.0.0.0 it should have been the 192.168.1.X Is it trying to connect to my XP as IP 0.0.0.0 ? The port 80 is the uTorrent listening port number. I know this because I manually config that port.

I'm not familiar with IPv6 is, but the 3rd line "Error opening Windows firewall" Is it trying to conect to windows XP but tt can't go through the "Windows Firewall"? If it is how can it do so if its trying to connect to IP "0.0.0.0"?

If you look a bit further down in the page it actually has "Unix Binaries"
And there is one particular link for "Ubuntu"
The new BT4 is based on the same stuff as Ubuntu, so Transmission on it should be no problem.
I recommended Transmission because it is simple and easy to use.


If you want to save yourself a ton of suffering just use kTorrent.
It's a uTorrent clone for Linux.
Voila, no more WINE problems.
