Ive used bt3 on my old lappy and it worked perfectly. Got a new studio 15 nd try booting into bt3 and i get
    (EE) VERSA(0): No matching modes
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

    Fatal server error:
    No screens found
    Giving up

Also in booting bt4, after startx, it freezes.
Any ideas on what to do. In bt4 i could get access to the console

ok, this is weird. im on bt4 live cd right now.

It looks like you have a classic case of: you need to edit your xorg.conf file.

    man xorg

check for your monitors supported resolutions and frequencies.
