I'm taking a class on local area networks and my teacher wants us to configure backtrack 3 to be either a dhcp ftp or http server in the console. I and many other students are completly new to linnux and its been very hard to find anything on the web to explain. Our teacher wants us to learn for ouselves too so can anyone help? Thanks all!
yeah, that was tough to find.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.
wow yeah I feel pretty dumb lol! I don't know I guess I just wasn't searching the right keywords....if you try for example to put start dhcp service backtrack3 you get nothing helpful...it seems that find things for linnux-easy-but when you include BT3 it comes with with very little!
Of course, to get DHCP actually working on a LAN, you're going to have to be passingly familiar with the basics of IP addressing and DNS.
So, some other terms you may need to search:
- DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
- TCP/IP (Tranport Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) addressing
- Subnet Mask
- DNS (Domain Name Service)
RFC 2131 (DHCP) woud be a good place to start; it updates RFC 1541.
