The recent fix for the kde problems encountered by running 'apt-get upgrade' recently rendered xorg useless when I executed it before doing the upgrade. This is a simple case of If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It. You can get kde to work again by installing the upgrades through apt-get then running the fix. However, my touchpad remains broken and I had to reinstall the driver package from linuxwireless.org (this may be model specific, eeepc 1000HE, if anybody cares.)
Do not run the fix if you have not upgraded with apt-get.
