Best wireless card for laptop

Well, as the title says, I'm looking to buy a wireless card for my laptop and I was wondering which is the most ideal one?
I'm trying to programming my own sniffer and I'm kind of confused with which one to buy. I read that Atheros based chipsets are the best bet.
But, are there any specific versions that would be preferable? and which vendor?

I received my N300 today, exellent card. injection no problem. I never attached anything to the 3rd antenna port on the card, I dont know how much difference it would make.

Well I'm no expert but Its probably best you stick a small one on. Back in my radio days the rf out would always need some sort of load to avoid damaging the equipment. You can get one cheap from oxfordtec.
