noob needs help

im sorry didnt no where to put this ? i am using backtrack 3 live cd and when trying to airodump it shows no connection round my area when it should as there is around 7 i can pick up normally. im using a amilo li 2727 laptop with a atheros ar5007eg internal card.

is there someway i have to activate the card? as usually in windows i have to use launch manager to switch wlan on. THANKS
