Default Lenovo IdeaPad U330 - No Graphic Interface

    Hi,

I've just ran BT4 on my IdeaPad U330 and it did not recognize any usable screens when I ran startx.

Networking/Injection works fine with Intel 5100 [A,G,N] [IWLAGN].

It was stupid of me not to include more information. My bad.

Anyway, the U330 has switchable graphics. You can select two modes at the BIOS: Switchable or Discrete graphics.

When on switchable, it defaults to the onboard Intel GMA 4500 MHD and you can switch to the (discrete) ATI Radeon HD 3450 through an application when on Windows Vista.

When on discrete, it defaults to the ATI Radeon HD 3450 and doesn't allow switching.

I was able to get KDE to run on BT4 when discrete was selected on the BIOS, but it would be a pita to have to change the setting on the BIOS every time I want to run BT4.

Below are three different lspci outputs: from BT4 switchable, from BT4 discrete and from BT3 switchable (where KDE works):

    BT4 switchable:

you have posted this question in wrong section.unless you are not 100% sure that hardware is not Compatible, don't post in this area.always ask queries in newbie section.
ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3400 Series is your add-on card
Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) is your on-board card.

now I would say that better to Download & install linux driver for your card model from ATI site &
its recommended to running smoothly & utilizing the graphic power of card.it will auto-configure the xconfig according to your monitors specifications.
installing 2 display drivers for both intel on-board chip & ATI will create problem & may collide.

I don't have any questions. I'm saying BT4 graphic interface is not working out of the box with this laptop. I thought the idea of this forum was to say which things are not working as expected so they could try to fix/improve compatibility.

I don't expect to have to install a driver on a linux distro that is supposed to run "live" and without permanent changes for a common hardware that the Intel GMA 4500.

If I were using uncommon hardware, I'd understand. But that is not the case.

Sorry if I sound aggressive, I'm just trying to help.
